Preparing Your Will

A Will is important if you want to determine who your property and assets go to should you pass away. While it is not a difficult process, it does need to be done correctly to ensure that the documents are legal and hold up in a court of law.

It is also important to remember that anytime you experience a major change in your life, you will need to update or redo your Will. Some examples include:

  • You remarry
  • You divorce
  • A beneficiary passes away
  • There is a significant change to your assets such as you buy or sell a house.

Paul Pattison Solicitors can assist you preparing your Will and ensuring that your final wishes are carried out after your death.

Deceased Estates

Once a person passes away, their assets need to be divided up according to their most recent Will. This involves collecting all of the assets, paying off any debts and then dividing the remaining assets amongst the beneficiaries.

If the deceased did not have a Will then the state law will determine how the assets are divided – this usually means that they go to the spouse and children or the closest living relative.

Paul Pattison Solicitors can assist this the complete process including the collection and distribution of assets.

Power of Attorney

A power of attorney gives another person or entity the authorisation to act on the grantors behalf in regards to financial decisions and/or health care decisions.

It is an important legal document that needs to be written very specifically to determine exactly what powers the attorney has and under what circumstances.

Paul Pattison Solicitors can assist you in creating and defending power of attorney documents.
